PRACTICE NURSES

The Practice Nurses hold surgeries usually every weekday morning and afternoons.  Appointments are available on Monday evenings until 8:15.   A nurse can be seen by appointment and can help with:-

  • Immunisations
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Travel vaccinations
  • Blood Tests
  • Health Screening
  • Healthy Lifestyle

A recall system operates within this practice offering appointments regarding care of patients with chronic diseases.


Clinics


ANTE NATAL & POST NATAL

876194.jpgDuring pregnancy it is important for expectant mothers to be seen regularly to ensure that mother and baby are progressing well. 

Ante Natal & Post Natal clinics are held weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons by the doctors and community midwife.
 


CERVICAL CANCER – SMEAR TESTS

All female patients between the ages of 25 and 65 are advised to have regular smear tests.  The Lancashire and South Cumbria Agency operates “a call and recall” system to remind you about the tests and clinics are held on Monday Wednesday and Thursday with the Practice Nurse.


CHILD HEALTH SURVEILLANCE

Routine advice on caring for your baby is given by the doctor and health visitor in the Baby Clinic which is held on Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm. 


DIABETIC and RESPIRATORY CLINICS

diabetes.jpgThe practice runs a clinic for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics. 

Both diabetic and respiratory clinics are nurse led clinics.

You will receive notification in advance advising you that your review is due.


FAMILY PLANNING

Advice regarding contraception will be given in ordinary surgeries.

We run a full vaccination and immunisation service. 

Childhood immunisations are usually carried out in the Baby Clinic. 

Those for tetanus, influenza and some for foreign travel are given by the Practice Nurse.

MINOR SURGERY

Certain surgical procedures can be performed by the Practice Doctors.  This may save unnecessary visits to hospital.


Health Promotion Clinics


HEALTH PROMOTION SCREENING

In response to recent emphasis on the prevention of illness particularly of heart disease, the above service is available.  It usually consists of a short interview with the practice nurse to assess various health risks and includes a BP check.  If you are over 45 and have not seen the doctor for 5 years you may wish to avail yourself of this service.
